The Tunstall Valley is Wolsingham's hidden secret gem. It can be accessed by a small road leaving from Wolsingham northwards, or on foot by several routes. The valley contains superb countryside reaching from the tree-lined Waskerley Beck, through park-like meadows, to open fells with spectacular views over all of lower Weardale. In the upper part of the valley is the Tunstall Reservoir, with a picnic area, circular walk, access to the dam wall, and angling facilities (The lake is leased to a private angling club, although a limited number of day permits are available to the public.). To the north of the reservoir is a nature reserve, and a second nature reserve - Baal Hill Wood - overlooks Wolsingham from the lower part of the valley.
