We are a small group of trained volunteers, who take turns to be contacted in the event of a possible heart attack 999 call. We are trained to use a semi-automatic defibrillator. These can restart the heart, if it has stopped, when the person is reached fast enough. We are contacted by the Ambulance Call centre as soon as they have dispatched an Ambulance, especially if we could reach the patient even minutes before the ambulance. We are always interested in more volunteers. If you have mornings, afternoons, evenings, or nights when you could be available, and a car, please think about it. Training is not difficult, nor prolonged. Dr Matthew Hackett is our Medical Director and he is happy to be contacted, via the surgery, if you are interested.

Christian Aid is the fund raising agent for the British Council of Churches, whose remit is to help the poorest peoples in the world. It works in more than 50 countries where the need is greatest, regardless of religion, by supporting local organisations which are best placed to understand their communities. Christian Aid believes in strengthening people to find their own solutions to the problems they face. In a globalised world, it campaigns to change the structures that keep people poor and challenges inequality and injustice. In Wolsingham our contribution to this work is by a house to house collection in May and campaigning on fair trade issues. Extra volunteers are always needed.

The Mothers Union is a Christian organisation whose aims are to support family life in all its forms, to promote the Christian uobringing of children and to help families in adversity. It is a world wide organisation with 3 million members.
Membership is open to anyone who has been baptised and who supports our aims. It is not necesssary to be a mother, married or even female to join the MU.
Wolsingham branch meets on the first Tuesday of each month in the Methodost Guild Room. Each meeting begins with a service of Holy Communion, followed by a speaker or discussion. Additional meetings are held in other parishes within Stanhope Deanery and there is an annual Festival Service in the Cathedral.
There is a small annual subscriptionwhich helps to pay for the administration of the organisation. (The 120,000 British members support branches in poorer countries). In addition, members voluntarily contribute to pay for workers overseas, holidays for families in our own area who would otherwise not be able to get a holiday and the Wolsingham branch also supports the local Women's Refuge.
