My Mum was born in Wolsingham in 1923, her maiden name was
Brodrick and she is now Gladys Smith. She was a warbride and
has lived in Canada since 1945. I visited Wolsingham when I
was young and also in in late 80s with my Mum and Dad. Just
tracing my family history and found this wonderful site.
What a lovely village Wolsingham is and I look forward to visiting
again some time.

Excellent website. Keep up the good work. Can I ask a question for
a Local to answer?
The Mining Hymn 'Gresford' was wrote by Robert Saint of Tyneside
& the words by local man George Leslie Lister. Can anyone
direct me to information about G L Lister?
Thank you,
Norman Dunn

I was pleased to find this site as I am trying to trace my family
tree and know that two generations of my family lived in
Wolsingham in Thistlewood Lane and Upper Town.
My grandparents were Joseph and Mary Galley and my
greatgrandparents were William and Elizabeth Galley. If anyone has
any info about the Galleys I would be grateful to receive it on berryjeanm@hotmail.com
I intend to come and stay in Wolsingham next year to try and find
out more and am really looking forward to the visit. Remarkably I
only visited Wolsingham once despite growing up in Esh Winning in
the late 50's early 60's

Trying to trace any relatives or friends of Thomas Stafford Cooke
(played football for Bishop Auckland), my father now deceased, who
moved from Wolsingham around 1960 to Coventry with parents and
sisters, anyone who knows please contact me at smc@sol-westmidlands.co.uk.
I'm interest on knowing more about my father who died when i was
only 3 (1972) from people who may have known him (he would be 64
now)
Many Thanks
Steven Cooke

Wolsingham is one of our favourite places for a day out,
especially the walk around the reservoir. Last week we found a
mobile phone on the footpath and handed it in at Seaham Police
Station, so it was great to get a phone call from a guy in Consett
who was delighted that the police had returned the phone to him
without any hassle. We used to enjoy huge trout (with butter and
almonds!) at the Bay Horse - any hope that this will soon be open
again?

Wolsignham is a fantastic place to go walking. my girlfreind and I
do around 30 miles on a weekend in the countryside around
wolsignham. i went to school at Wolsingham comp, and i've been
lucky enough to have success in the music industry, so those early
school music lessons paid off!

My ancestors, the Hopper family were residents of Wolsingham inthe
18th and 19th Centuries. They were stone and marble masons and
builders, so presumably responsible for some of the buildings and
gravestones etc. 1 of them is mentioned on your War Memorial in
Market Square.
Does anyone locally have links with this family?
Would love to hear anything that links with them.

On saturday gone, my wife and I viewed a lovely house in
Wolsingham. After an afternoon looking around the place and
eating... mmm i like food, we decided wolsingham was the place for
us. I am well used to weardale having spent a lot of my youth on a
farm between frosterly and stanhope (back road) but the wife fell
instantly in love.
I look forward o meeting you all and taking an active part in
life!
